Again, again and again... Lesson 4 of 10 for 10 Years.

My 4th birthday blog and another thing that I am incredibly passionate about is actually really boring but is, in my opinion, the key factor to business success.

Consistency.

I know a lot of people will read that and think ‘boring’ and I guess in some ways it is- the definition of consistency, or being consistent, is acting or doing something in the same way over time.

So eating the same lunch every day is consistent but it might get pretty boring; taking the same route to work every day or wearing the same outfit is consistent - and may even be necessary- but it can feel boring.

When I talk about consistency I’m talking about building strong habits that form the basis of everything you do… and the basis of your growth/success.

So let me break down the areas where I think consistency in your business is an absolute non negotiable:

  1. Your Brand - your brand needs to be consistent across all touch points so that people are confident they know what your brand is and what it stands for.

  2. Your Values - if you ever want to people to trust and therefore like you, they need to have understand and follow your beliefs, so they need to be consistent so people understand what they are.

  3. Your Marketing - now I’m not saying that every advert or post needs to look the same but showing up consistently, every week rather than ad hoc, so your audience learn to expect (and look forward to seeing) you.

  4. Your Service - how you treat customers/clients and how they expect to be treated should be consistent. They’ve got to know you, your brand, your online presence and that needs to carry through to the service you offer.

  5. Your Habits - the habits you develop to be efficient are important, they should grow and flex as your business grows but they are important. What works for others won’t necessarily work for you but that’s okay.

  6. Your Why - that reason you started is important. It’s your motivator and it’s unlikely that this will ever change. The consistency of that why is what will propel you forward.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting that there isn’t room for growth, development and change… there absolutely is. My own brand has evolved over the ten years I’ve been doing this but I have evolved in line with the consistency I have created. My routines, my values, my why haven’t changed since day one.

That commitment to consistency is the building blocks on which growth will happen.

Show up every day.

Work on your business, yourself and your why every single day.

Take a step forward every single day.

And you’ll get there… wherever there is for you.
